Specific selection can consider the following points:

1. The size and nature of the torque to be transmitted, and the requirements for the damping function. For example, for high-power heavy-duty transmission, gear coupling can be selected; For the transmission with severe impact load or requiring elimination of torsional vibration of shafting, high elastic coupling such as tyre type coupling can be selected.

2. The working speed and centrifugal force of the coupling. For high-speed transmission shaft, the coupling with high balance precision should be selected, such as diaphragm coupling, etc., but the slider coupling with eccentricity should not be selected.

3. The magnitude and direction of the relative displacement of the two axes. When it is difficult to keep the two shafts in strict and accurate alignment after installation and adjustment, or the two shafts will have large additional relative displacement in the working process, the flexible coupling should be selected. For example, when the radial displacement is large, the slider coupling can be selected; when the angular displacement is large or the two intersecting shafts are connected, the universal coupling can be selected.

4. The reliability and working environment of the coupling. Generally, the coupling made of metal elements without lubrication is more reliable; The performance of the coupling that needs to be lubricated is easily affected by the degree of perfect lubrication and may pollute the environment. The coupling with rubber and other non-metallic components is sensitive to temperature, corrosive medium and strong light, and easy to aging.

5. Manufacturing, installation, maintenance and cost of coupling. On the premise of meeting the convenience performance, the coupling with convenient assembly and disassembly, simple maintenance and low cost should be selected. For example, the rigid coupling is not only simple in structure, but also convenient in assembly and disassembly. It can be used for low-speed, rigid transmission shaft. General non-metallic elastic element coupling (such as elastic sleeve pin coupling, elastic pin coupling, quincunx elastic coupling, etc.) is widely used in general medium and small power transmission due to its good comprehensive ability.
